A large crumpled white sheet

Massenet's Werther in the As.Li.Co. production at Teatro Sociale di Como, directed by Stefano Vizioli, with set design by Emanuele Sinisi and conducted by Maestro Francesco Pasqualetti. A co-production with OperaLombardia and numerous theatres including Modena, Reggio Emilia, Pisa, Brescia, and Ferrara.

Director Stefano Vizioli and set designer Emanuele Sinisi envisioned a large crumpled white sheet as the dominant scenic element. A sheet that at times receives words that compose and decompose themselves, stained by ink that drips, becoming a tear or blood. Imaginarium developed the visual and video mapping solutions for this set design, working with the aesthetic of early twentieth-century photography.

The project required special solutions also due to Covid restrictions, which profoundly influenced the staging and production, making it necessary to reinvent the relationship between scenic space and visual technology. Photos by Alessia Santambrogio.
